System capabilities
The envisaged capabilities for GALO are the following (in order of priority).
The proposed solutions will have to take these priorities into account and will describe in which matter each capability is covered in their proposed solution(s).
- High- Revisit Electro-Optical
- High- Revisit Infrared
- High- Revisit Synthetic Aperture Radar
- High- Revisit ELINT
- Non-Earth Imaging
Program principles
Complementarity
Multiple similar activities among partners and commercial actors are ongoing. We aimed to develop what we estimate is filling the capability gap among other available solutions. In particular we aim at being a complementary system to the French IRIS constellation.
Interoperability
We operate within a multinational joint environment and we want our system to be as much as possible interoperable with partner system. This includes the implementation of multi-mission ground segments or the possible integration of external compatible sensors.
Versatility
Numerous use cases have been considered in order to write the Key User Requirements. The system is supposed to cover a wide range of application from strategic intelligence to tactical support.
Exploitability
The system should aim at shortening as much as possible the chain between sensor overflight and decision-making while enhancing the revisit or download times or implementing automatic or semi-automatic tasking.
Sovereignty
The system is aimed at assuring more autonomy, trustability & security than an commercial equivalent in order to maintain independence of any third party shutter policy, release restrictions or moratory implementation.
Evolutivity
The system is assumed to become an evolutive constellation with recurrent launches of new waves of state-of-the-art sensors.
